NATURE OF THE BEAST

IT'S ALWAYS INTERESTING TO HEAR A LOCAL'S PERSPECTIVE ON DEVELOPMENT IN THEIR HOMETOWN. BEFORE TULUM BECAME A "HIPPIE GETAWAY" IT WAS BEACH FRONT FARMLAND WITH WHAT A LOCAL CALLED "SOME OF THE PUREST DRINKING WATER" PULLED FROM THE WELLS OF THEIR AWE INSPIRING CENOTES. RAPID DEVELOPMENT AND TOURISM IN THE AREA HAS POLLUTED THEIR DRINKING WATER, LITTERED THEIR COASTLINE WITH PLASTIC, AND INJECTED LOCAL GROCERY STORES WITH HIGHLY PROCESSED FOOD. ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE SPECTRUM, IT HAS PROVIDED MANY JOBS FOR THE IMPOVERISHED AND CREATED A MUCH MORE GLOBAL ATMOSPHERE, BUT THERE IS STILL A STRONG DISCONNECT WITH HIGH FENCES AND SECURITY SYSTEMS FEEDING THE DIVISION. I LONG FOR A WORLD WHERE THE TWO CAN BE UNITED AND ENLIGHTEN ONE ANOTHER. A WORLD FREE FROM THE BUZZING OF DRONES OVER THE MOST BEAUTIFUL WATER I'VE EVER LAID EYES ON.
